Silvia Colloca, Josie Maran and Elena Anaya

L to R:  Silvia, Josie and Elena

I quite enjoyed the 2004 film Van Helsing, provided you could suspend disbelief as to the laws of physics and  Kate Beckinsale doing a bizarre Romanian accent.  Unlike his Mummy films this did not lead to the series that director Stephen Sommers had hoped for so we are just left with some excellent sets, some dodgy CGI and Silvia Colloca, Josie Maran and Elena Anaya as the most appealing Brides of Dracula  since a young Monica Bellucci appeared as one in the Gary Oldman Dracula (1992).

The producers didn't miss the opportunity to get their actresses to pose together in suitably vampiric guise.

Josie Maran as Marishka

5'8" tall Josie Maran was born in 1978 and was spotted by a model agency scout while still at school in her home state of California.

She later moved to New York to further her modelling career. She modelled for Guess? and appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue three years running.  She made her first film appearance in 2001 but by 2005 her brief film career was over.

She now runs her own natural cosmetics company and has two daughters with her husband, a photographer.

Silvia Colloca as Verona

Italian actress Silvia Colloca is a trained mezzo soprano opera singer and started her acting career in musical theatre.  Van Helsing was her first film role.

She met her husband, Australian actor Richard Roxburgh, who played Dracula, on the set of Van Helsing so she really is a bride of Dracula!  She has two children.

Born in Milan in 1977 she is just over 5'7" tall.  Unlike Josie Maran she continues to act.

Elena Anaya as Aleera

Spanish actress Elena Anaya has a much longer film acting pedigree than the other two, appearing in her first film in 1995 and continuing to work regularly.

Elena was born in 1975 so is the oldest of our trio of Dracula's brides and also the shortest at 5'5".  She was the heroine of the Justin Timberlake video for his song SexyBack where she looks quite sensational.

Elena had already appeared in Spanish art house film Sex and Lucia (2001) and went on to star in one of my particular friend Sophie's favorite films (made by the same director, Julio Médem); the lipstick lesbian chick flick Room in Rome (2010) where she spends much of the film naked.

In 2011 a Spanish magazine published pictures of her kissing a woman film director who she later admitted had been her girlfriend for three years.

  1. My word... they're all attractive, but Elena is just stunning...

  2. Another beautiful posting, thank you
